The Royal Australian Mint is proud to unveil its 2025 Kangaroo Series – Bush Capital Coin, the 32nd coin in its beloved Kangaroo Series.
The Kangaroo Series is an annual collection that shines a light on one of Australia’s best known animals – the kangaroo. And, this year, the spotlight turns to Canberra’s own backyard, with a design that honours the bush capital and its Eastern Grey Kangaroo.

Seen on front lawns, nature strips and in the quiet calm of the evening mist, the Eastern Grey is as much a part of Canberra life as roundabouts and frosty mornings.

The 2025 Kangaroo Series – Bush Capital, created by Mint coin designer Adam Ball, captures the energy of this iconic marsupial in mid-bound, set against a bold interpretation of the city skyline.

The design features some of Canberra’s most familiar sights — Parliament House, Black Mountain Tower, and the Royal Australian Mint with five hot air bal
loons drifting above in a nod to the city’s love of hot air ballooning. Rolling hills and stylised gum trees wind through the background, echoing the rugged ter
rain and bushland that frame the capital.

Royal Australian Mint acting Chief Executive Officer Emily Martin said the coin captured the connection between city and nature that made Canberra so special.

“This coin is a tribute to the daily life and natural beauty we enjoy here in Canberra.

“The Eastern Grey Kangaroo is a neighbour and a morning sight on a school run, or a quiet presence at dusk,” Ms Martin said.

First launched in 1993, the Kangaroo Series is one of the Mint’s most enduring and well-loved coin programs. It has grown into a favourite among collectors across the country and around the world, showcasing diverse artistic interpretations of Australia’s most recognisable animal.

Over the years, renowned Australian artists have inspired the spirit of storytelling that runs through the program. These include Ken Done (in 2009), known for his vibrant depictions of Australian life, and Mambo designer Reg Mombassa in 2008.

Each of the 32 coins in the series adds a new layer to the way the kangaroo is seen — not just as a symbol, but as part of the nation’s shared cultural identity.

Ms Martin said the Kangaroo Series was something in which the Mint took great pride.

“Each release lets us tell a distinctly Australian story. With Bush Capital, we’re celebrating the city we call home — its wildlife, its landmarks and the quiet beauty of life among the gum trees.”

The Bush Capital coins are available as a 2025 $1 1oz fine silver proof coin or as a 2025 $1 1oz fine silver frosted uncirculated coin.
